CEACAM-1(BGP-1orCD66a)belongstothecarcinoembryonicantigen(CEA)genefamily.Thisantibodyisanexcellentforcellsofepithelialandmyeloidorigin.

CEACAM-1expressionisdownregulatedinmanytumorsindicatingatumor-suppressivefunction.Theantitumoreffectmaybeduetoinhibitionoftumorangiogenesis,possIBLybyincreasedsecretionofantiangiogenicmoleculesfromthecells.LikeallmembersoftheCEACAMfamily,itconsistsofasingleNdomain,withstructuralhomologytotheimmunoglobulinvariabledomains,followedbytwoimmunoglobulinconstant-likeA(A1,A2)andoneBdomain.WhiletheN,A1andBdomainscanalsobefoundinotherCEA-familymembers,theA2domainofCEACAM-1differsfromthosefoundinotherCEACAM.
