Tumorendothelialmarker5(TEM5)isamemberoftheadhesionfamilyofGPCRsandisupregulatedinendothelialcellsduringtumorandphysiologicangiogenesis.SolubleTEM5(sTEM5)isshedbyendothelialcellsduringangiogenesisandbindstoglycosaminoglycansonextracellularmatrixandcellsurfaceproteoglycans.Afterproteolyticprocessing,anRGD-bindingsiteforintegrinαvβ3isexposedonsTEM5.AdhesionofendothelialcellstoimmobilizedproteolyticallyprocessedsTEM5promotestheirsurvival.
