IntroductionThisgeneisamemberoftheEPO/TPOfamilyandencodesasecreted,glycosylatedcytokinecomposedoffouralphahelicalbundles.Theproteinisfoundintheplasmaandregulatesredcellproductionbypromotingerythroiddifferentiationandinitiatinghemoglobinsynthesis.Thisproteinalsohasneuroprotectiveactivityagainstavarietyofpotentialbraininjuriesandantiapoptoticfunctionsinseveraltissuetypes.
DescriptionErythropoietin-alphaHumanRecombinantisproducedinChinesehamsterovary(CHO)cellsbyrecombinantDNAtechnologyisasingle,polypeptidechaincontaining166aminoacidsandhavingapredictedmolecularmassof21,000Daltonandapparentglycosylatedmolecularmassof36-40kDa.EPO-aispurifiedbyproprietarychromatographictechniques.
