SensitiveinvivoluminescentimagingsystemsliketheBrukerIn-VivoXtrememaybeleveragednotonlyfortraditionalbioluminescentimagingapplications,butalsofordetectionofPETradionuclideCherenkovradiation.Cherenkovluminescentimaging(CLI)solutions,relativetotraditionalPETdetectortechnology,provideaninexpensiveapproachtoPETtracerimaging.SomehavespeculatedthatCLItechnologiescouldsupplybroaderaccessformoreresearcherstoperformPETtracerstudies.Still,CLIislimitedinsensitivity(CLbluelightemissionsaresubjecttosignificantscatterintissue)andisnotapplicableforsomeofthemostcommonradioisotopesusedinnuclearmedicine(e.g.99mTc).
TheBrukerIn-VivoXtremesystemprovidesformultimodalX-rayimaging,fluorescenceimaging(FLI),bioluminescence/Cherenkovimaging(BLI/CLI),anddirectradioisotopicimaging(DRI),andistheonlypreclinicalsystemofferingcombinedCLIandDRI.TheIn-VivoXtremeperformsDRIusingaphosphorconversionscreenfordirectdetectionofradionuclidegammarayemissionsandovercomesmanyofthelimitationsofCLI,allowingformoresensitivedetectionsandimagingofabroaderrangeofisotopes.
