TheproteinencodedbythisgeneisachemokinereceptorbelongingtotheGprotein-coupledreceptorsuperfamily.Thefamilymembersarecharacterizedbythepresenceof7transmembranedomainsandnumerousconservedaminoacids.ThisreceptorismostcloselyrelatedtoRBS11andtheMIP1-alpha/RANTESreceptor.Ittransducesasignalbyincreasingtheintracellularcalciumionslevel.Theviralmacrophageinflammatoryprotein-IIisanantagonistofthisreceptorandblockssignaling.Twoalternativelysplicedtranscriptvariantsencodingthesameproteinhavebeenfoundforthisgene.
