TheMCSGSuitehasbeendevelopedattheMidwestCenterforStructuralGenomics.AspartoftheProteinStructureInitiative,MCSGhasbeeninstrumentalinthedevelopmentofrapid,integratedandcost-effectivemethodsforproteinstructuredeterminationviaX-raycrystallography. 

Throughextensivecrystallizationscreeningofmorethan40,000diverseproteinsfrombothprokaryoticandeukaryoticorganisms,researchersattheMCSGhavederivedthemostup-to-datesetofcrystallizationconditionsforinitialscreening.Thesenon-redundantconditionsconstitutethebroadestcoverageofcrystallizationspaceofanycommerciallyavailablescreenandaresupportedbyadecadeofexperimentalanalysisandvalidation.

ThecompleteMCSGsuite(384conditions)comprisesof4screensof96uniqueconditionsthatareavailableeitherasdeep-wellblocks(1.7mLperwell)ortubes(10ml). Conditions1-288areorganizedinorderofdecreasingcrystalproductivityinscreensMCSG-1,MCSG-2andMCSG-3. ThusMCSG-1:A1conditionhasyieldedthegreatestnumberofuniquecrystalsforalltargetsscreenedwiththesuitepredecessors. TheconditionsthatcompriseMCSG-4havebeenrationallyselectedtosystematicallysampleregionsofcrystallizationspaceforproteinsrequiringadditionalscreening.
