Chemokine(C-X-Cmotif)ligand11(CXCL11)isasmallcytokinebelongingtotheCXCchemokinefamilythatisalsocalledInterferon-inducIBLeT-cellalphachemoattractant(I-TAC)andInterferon-gamma-inducibleprotein9(IP-9).ByPCRanalysisofsomaticcellhybrids,theCXCL11genewasmappedtochromosome4,andusingFISH,itwaslocatedto4q21.2.TheCXCL11wasstronglyinducedbyIFNGandbeta-interferon,butonlyweaklyinducedbyalpha-interferon.InductionofCXCL11requiredexpressionofSTAT1.What"smore,itfoundthatmonocytechemotaxisoccursinresponsetorecombinantCXCL11.RT-PCRanalysisdetectedCXCL11expressioninbraintissuefromapatientwithAIDSdementiaandapatientwithmultiplesclerosisbutnotin2controls.
