Interleukin-20(IL-20)isaproteinbelongingtotheIL-10familyofcytokines.IL-20isproducedbyactivatedkeratinocytesandmonocytesandtransmitsanintracellularsignalthroughtwodistinctcell-surfacereceptorcomplexesonkeratinocytesandotherepithelialcells.Byradiationhybridanalysis,theIL20genewasmappedtochromosome1q32,whereitistightlylinkedtotheIL10,IL19,andMDA7geneswithina195-kbregion,theIL10familycytokinecluster.IL-20regulatesproliferationanddifferentiationofkeratinocytesduringinflammation,particularlyinflammationassociatedwiththeskin.Inaddition,IL-20alsocausescellexpansionofmultipotentialhematopoieticprogenitorcells.
