Description: Sn(IV)ProtoporphyrinIXisaninhibitorhemeoxygenase(theenzymethatcatalyzestheconversionofhemetobiliverdininthehemedegradationpathway)buthasalsobeenfoundtostimulateproductionofthehemeoxygenaseprotein.ContrasttheactivityofCo(III)ProtoporphyrinwhichhasbeenfoundtohavesimilaractivitiestoSn(IV)ProtoporphyrinbutwithagreaterenhancementofhemeoxygenasesynthesisactivitysuchthathemeoxygenaseactivityisactuallyincreasedwhenadmiNISTeredinvivowhileinvitroadministrationinhibitshemeoxygenaseactivity.Hemeoxygenasehasbeenimplicatedintumorcellresistancetochemotherapy,reductionoffreerADIcalformationandinflammation,andassociatedwithvascularrepair.

Sn(IV)ProtoporphyrinIXisstableforatleastoneyearwhenstoredasasolid,protectedfrommoisture,at-20°C.Protectfromlight.
