Snap frozen tissue from mouse strains that spontaneously develop disease similar to systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).

Tissue from (NZB x NZW)F1 mice

From female (NZB x NZW)F1 hybrid (NZBWF1) mice at 26 to 52 weeks of age (age is selected by customer when ordering).

These crossbred mice spontaneously develop a polygenic autoimmune disease closely resembling systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) in human patients. Anti-nuclear and anti-dsDNA antibodies are detectable as early as 20 weeks of age. Proteinuria and kidney pathology (immune complex glomerulonephritis) are observed at 36 to 45 weeks.

Body weight and proteinuria score are recorded weekly from age 20 weeks. Treatment usually starts at 23 to 26 weeks.

Tissue from MRL/lpr mice

From female MRL/lpr mice at 12 to 20 weeks of age (age is selected by customer when ordering).

MRL/lpr mice are homozygous for spontaneous mutation in the Fas gene, and develop lymphadenopathy (enlarged lymph nodes), splenomegaly (enlarged spleen) and systemic autoimmunity.

Autoimmune responses occur spontaneously in these mice, resulting in arthritis and glomerulonephritis resembling SLE in people. Anti-nuclear and anti-dsDNA antibodies are detectable as early as 8 weeks of age. Proteinuria and kidney pathology (immune complex glomerulonephritis) are found at 16 to 28 weeks of age.

Body weight and proteinuria score are recorded weekly from age 11 weeks. Treatment usually starts at 12 weeks.

Sample selection

Each product unit contains kidney and spleen tissue, whole blood, and serum from a single mouse.

Customers may choose tissue from individual mice in our inventory based on mouse proteinuria scores, body weight history, and age at termination. Contact us atorfor a complete listing of our current inventory.

Preparation

Blood is immediately collected for serum, organs are collected and snap frozen in liquid nitrogen. Serum is isolated and frozen at -80 °C.

All tissue is stored at -80 °C until shipment.
