Profilin (Profilin 1)(Actin Binding Protein)Cat. #: 8418-01................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
Description
Protein | Profilin (Synonyms: Profilin 1) |
Origin | human recombinant - untagged. |
Molecular mass | 15kDa |
Protein description | Profilin (15kDa) regulates the G-actin pool by sequestration of actin monomers. Thus profilin controls the growth of actin filaments, and is thus an essential regulator of cellular locomotion and cell shape changes.Profilin is negatively regulated by phospholipids (PIP2, InsP3), reversed by phospholipase C. |
Actin interaction | Profilin binds to monomeric actin by occupying an actin-actin interaction site. As a result, profilin sequesters actin from the G-actin pool. Profilin catalyzes the exchange of actin-bound ADP to ATP. This converts less polymerizable ADP-actin into fast polymerizable ATP-actin. Since profilin has a significantly higher affinity for ATP- than for ADP-actin. Another F-actin growth control by profiling is that profilin-actin complexes are introduced into growing actin polymers by e.g. formin, WASP and VASP. |
