CryopreservedHumanPeripheralBloodMononuclearCells(PBMCs)areavailableaspositiveandnegativecontrolsforT-cellmonitoringinELISPOT,ELISA,cytokinebeadarray,tetramer/pentamer,andflowcytometryassays.Aperipheralbloodmononuclearcell(PBMC)isdefinedasanybloodcellwitharoundnucleus(i.e.alymphocyte,amonocyte,oramacrophage).Thesebloodcellsareacriticalcomponentintheimmunesystemtofightinfectionandadapttointruders.ThelymphocytepopulationconsistsofTcells,BcellsandNaturalKillercells.Thesecellsareoftenextractedfromwholebloodorfromleukopacksusingficoll,ahydrophilicpolysaccharidethatseparateslayersofblood,withmonocytesandlymphocytesformingabuffycoatunderalayerofplasma.
