Themelamine(polymethylenemelamine)nanospheresandmicrospheresaremadefromcrosslinkedmelamineandhavesomeadvantagesdependingontheapplicationcomparedtopolystyreneparticles.Theyhaveahigherdensity(1.51g/cm3),areverystable,canbestoredindefinitely,canbere-suspendedinwater,theydonotswellorshrinkinmostorganicsolventsandareheatresistantupto300°C.Thesemonodisperse(CV1-2%)melaminemicroparticlesarehydrophilicandshippedasawatersuspensions.Therefractiveindexis1.68.
Surfaceofplainmelaminemicroparticlesareterminatedwithmethylolgroups,whichcouldbereadilyfunctionalizedindesiredmanner.
Currently,weoffermelaminenanospheres inthe500-950nmandmicrospheresinthe1-10μmranges.Othersmaller,intermediateandlargersizescouldbealsoprepared.
