Description
S-(N-Phenylbutylthiocarbamoyl)-L-cysteine(PBITC)isaconjugateofphenylbutylisothiocyanateandcysteine.IsothiocyanatesaretypicallyfoundinplantsoftheBrassicaceaefamily,includingbroccoli,cabbage,andradish.Isothiocyanatesarebestknownfortheirantioxidative,anticancerchemotherapeutic,chemopreventive,anti-angiogenic,andantibioticproperties.Invitro,PBITCincreasescaspase3activityandcleavageofpoly(ADP)-ribosepolymerase(PARP),inducingcaspase-mediatedapoptosis.PBITCalsoinhibitsdevelopmentofpancreaticductaldysplasiasandadenocarcinomasanddecreasesoccurrenceoflungtumorsinanimalmodels.ThiscompounddecreasesoxidationofcarcinogenNNKandincreasesactivityofNADPH:quinoneoxidoreductaseandglutathione-S-transferaseinvitroandinvivo.
