Foundedin2006,inMontreal,Quebec,byagroupofMcGillUniversityresearcherstoensureaffordableaccessbylocalresearcherstothelatesthigh-qualityresearchantibodies.
Bylicensingantibodiesfromtheirpeersatlocaluniversitiesandresearchcentres,theyquicklygeneratedacatalogofover200Antibodies.Despitemanagementbeingfullyemployedinother“dayjobs”thequalityofMédiMabs’productsandtheresponsivenessoftheemployedscientiststoassistothersintheirresearchusingtheantibodiesenabledMédiMabstogainpositiverecognitioninthescientificcommunityworld-wide.
Butacatalogwasnotenough.
Startingin2011,MédiMabsreceivedsignificantdemandforcustomantibodies(inmiceforMAbsandrabbitsforPAbs)andrelatedservices,particularlyfromlocalresearchers.Initially,theMédiMabslaboratory,animalfacilitiesandexperiencedresearchersmetthedemand.Asdemandgrew,theyrealizedfulltimemanagementandinvestmentinthecapitalequipmentmostresearcherscannotjustifywouldenableMédiMabstonotjustmeetthedemandforuniqueantibodies,butwouldenablethemtodoitbetter,fasterandcheaperthanmostresearchlaboratoriescoulddoitforthemselves.
In2013,withaplan,managementonstafffull-time,andastellarboardandadvisorycommitteeMédiMabsstartedtoseektheneededfinancingforgrowthandtechnology.
Nowin2015,withfinancinginplace,amodernanimalfacilityoperation,aspecializedsupportstaffhiredandtrained,andthespecializedtechnologyrunningMédiMabsisreadytobecomeyour“goto”supplierforantibodyproductsandservices.WearealsoproudtosaythatallanimalworkforthedevelopmentofantibodiesatMédiMabsisdoneinfacilitiesfullycertifiedbytheCanadianCouncilonAnimalCare(CCAC).

MédiMabsisalsoaproudmemberofthePSLAlliance.PivotalScientificLtd(PSL)istheonlybiotechnologyconsultancyintheworldthatworksspecificallywithresearchreagentmanufacturers–manufacturersofantibodies,proteins,ELISA/Assaykitsandtoolsformolecularbiology.
