Luciferinisacommonreagentusedthroughoutthebiotechnologyfieldandspecificallyforinvivoimaging.Luciferaselabeledtumorcells,stemcellsorinfectiousdiseasesareofteninoculatedintoresearchanimalssuchasratsormiceforinvestigation.Theinjectionofluciferinallowsforthereal-time,noninvasivemonitoringofdiseaseprogressionand/ordrugefficacyinthesemodelsystemsthroughBioluminescenceImaging(BLI).
