    β-Adrenergicreceptors(βAR)belongtothesuperfamilyof G-proteincoupledreceptors (GPCRs).βARstimulationbythesympatheticnervoussystemorcirculatingcatecholaminesisinvolvedinperipheralbloodcirculation,metabolicregulation,musclecontraction,andcentralneuralactivities.Intheheart,acuteβARstimulationservesasthemostpowerfulmeanstoregulatecardiacoutputinresponsetoafight-or-flightsituation.

    TherearethreeβARsubtypes,β1AR, β2AR and β3AR,incardiacmyocytes1.Thereceptorsconsistofsevenmembrane-spanningdomains,threeintra-andthreeextracellularloops,anextracellularN-terminaldomain,andanintracellularC-terminaltail2.

    β1ARisthepredominantreceptorsubtypeexpressedinhumancardiomyocytes.β1ARisalsoexpressedinthekidney3.IthasbeenimplicatedinADIpogenesisandmemoryformation4.
