Description:
RecombinantProteinAisanimmunoglobulin-bindingproteinderivedfromthecellwallofthebacteriumStaphylococcusaureus.ItconsistsoffivehomologousIg-bindingdomainsthatfoldintoathree-helixbundle.Eachdomainisabletobindproteinsfrommanyofmammalianspecies,mostnotablyIgGs.ProteinAbindswithhighaffinitytohumanIgG1andIgG2aswellasmouseIgG2aandIgG2b.ProteinAbindswithmoderateaffinitytohumanIgM,IgAandIgEaswellastomouseIgG3andIgG1.ItdoesnotreactwithhumanIgG3orIgD,norwillitreacttomouseIgM,IgAorIgE.ItbindstheheavychainwiththeFcregionofmostimmunoglobulinsandalsowithintheFabregioninthecaseofthehumanVH3family.Throughtheseinteractionsinserum,whereIgGmoleculesareboundinthewrongorientation(inrelationtonormalantibodyfunction),thebacteriadisruptsopsonizationandphagocytosisties.
