Chemokine(C-X-Cmotif)ligand1(CXCL1)isasmallcytokinebelongingtotheCXCchemokinefamilythatwaspreviouslycalledGRO1oncogene,GROalpha,KC,Neutrophil-activatingprotein3(NAP-3)andmelanomagrowthstimulatingactivity,alpha(MSGA-alpha).Inhumans,thisproteinisencodedbytheCXCL1gene.ThegeneforCXCL1islocatedonhumanchromosome4amongstgenesforotherCXCchemokines.ThematureformofCXCL1ismaximally73aminoacidslong.CXCL1issecretedbyhumanmelanomacells,hasmitogenicpropertiesandisimplicatedinmelanomapathogenesis.CXCL1isexpressedbymacrophages,neutrophilsandepithelialcells,andhasneutrophilchemoattractantactivity.ThischemokineelicitsitseffectsbysignalingthroughthechemokinereceptorCXCR2.CXCL1decreasedtheseverityofmultiplesclerosisandmayofferaneuro-protectivefunction.ThestandardproductusedinthiskitisrecombinantmouseCXCL1,consistingof77aminoacidswiththemolecularmassof8KDa.
