The5A1monoclonalantibodyreactswithmousecolonystimulatingfactor1(CSF1)alsoknownasmacrophagecolony-stimulatingfactor(M-CSF).CSF1isahematopoieticgrowthfactorthatisexpressedbymanydifferentcelltypesincludingfibroblasts,stromalcells,osteoblasts,activatedTcells,macrophages,andBcells.CSF1playsaroleinregulatingtheproliferation,differentiationandsurvivalofmonocytes,macrophages,andbonemarrowProgenitorcells.CSF1producedinvesselwallsisthoughttocontributetothedevelopmentandprogressionofatherosclerosis.The5A1antibodyhasbeenshowntoneutralizeCSF1invivo.
