STAADIUM™ GalactoZide II, Patent pending is used as enzyme-activated inhibitorGalactoZide™ II, Patent pending is an enzyme-responsive inhibitionsubstrate acting on lactose fermenting bacteria. The initially inactivecompound contains a beta-D-galactopyranosyl enzyme labile group that iscleaved by beta-galactosidase activity, leading to the release of abioactive compound. The growth of beta-galactosidase positivemicroorganism is inhibited, while beta-galactosidase-negativemicroorganisms are not affected.GalactoZide™ II is used in microbiological analysis to suppressbackground flora in enrichment media but also in therapies to changepopulation compositions where disturbed microbiota are a cause ofdisease.
