DehydrationforGMAembedmentsdoesnothavetobecompletebecauseofGMA"smiscibilityinwater.Onlyifthesampleissaturatedwithwatershouldascheduleofincreasingalcoholconcentrationbeused.Thiswilldisplacemostofthewaterwithasolventthatcanbereplacedwithplastic.Usescheduleasfollows: Infiltrationdisplacesthedehydrationsolventwithmonomerpriortobeginningthepolymerizationreaction.Ifyouhaveaporoussample,infiltrationmaybeneeded.Nonporoussamplescanskipthisstep.Makeupyourinfiltratingsolutionaccordingtothedirectionsfromyourkit.ForreusableTeflon®moldsformoreeffectiveheatremovalareavailablefromDDK.Whilecompleteeliminationofairisnotneeded,sealingthemoldswithparaffinorplasticwrapisoftendone.Leavethesamplesatroomtemperaturefor1hourthenat37°Cforonehourtocompletepolymerization. Ifyourembedmentscannotbemounteddirectlytothemicrotome,anadaptermustbeattached.PlacethesuitableTechnovit3040isaninexpensivemediapreparedbymixing3partsofthedrycomponentto1partoftheliquidcomponent.Pouritintotheadapterandpolymerizationwillbecompletewithin10minutes.TheadapterswillbefirmlyattachedthroughacopolymerizationoftheTechnovit3040withtheGMA.
