Live-or-Dye™viabilitydyesarecellmembraneimpermeableamine-reactivedyesdesignedfordiscriminationbetweenliveanddeadcellsduringflowcytometryormicroscopy.Theyareabletoenterintodeadcellsthathavecompromisedmembraneintegrityandcovalentlylabelfreeaminesonintracellularproteins.Thisdyelabelingisextremelystable,allowingthecellstobefixedandpermeabilizedwithoutlossoffluorescenceordyetransferbetweencells.

ConcanavalinA(ConA)isawidelyusedlectinthatselectivelybindstoa-mannopyranosylanda-glucopyranosyresidues,foundinthecellwallofyeastandfungi.Itislabeledwithoneofoursuperiorbright,photostableCF™dyes.

Afterstainingyeastwiththiskit,bothlivinganddeadcellswillhavecellwallsstainedwithConA,whileonlydeadcellswillalsohavethecytoplasmstainedwiththeLive-or-Dye™.
