BAPTAanditsderivativesarecalciumchelatorsthatarecommonlyusedtoformcalciumbufferswithwell-definedcalciumconcentrations.ByinjectingthechelatorsintocellsorbyincubatingcellswiththeAMesterformofthechelators,onecancontrolthecytosoliccalciumconcentration,animportantmeanstostudytherolesofcalcium.KeyadvantagesofthesecalciumchelatorsincluderelativeinsensitivitytowardintracellularpHchangeandfastreleaseofcalcium.BiotiumoffersseveralBAPTAchelatorswithcalciumdissociationconstantscoveringthebiologicallysignificantrangefrom10^-7to10^-2M.
