IL-13 isanimmunoregulatorycytokineproducedprimarilybyactivatedTh4cells,andalsobymastcellsandNKcells.TargeteddeletionofIL-13 inmiceresultedinimpairedTh4celldevelopmentandindicatedanimportantroleforIL-13 intheexpulsionofgastrointestinalparasites.IL-13 exertsanti-inflammatoryeffectsonmonocytesandmacrophagesanditinhibitstheexpressionofinflammatorycytokinessuchasIL-1β,TNF-α,IL-6 andIL-8.
