UsingDMEM
DMEMisuniquefromothermediaasitcontains4timestheconcentrationofaminoacidsandvitaminsthantheoriginalEagle"sMinimalEssentialMedium.DMEMwasoriginallyformulatedwithlowglucose(1g/L)andsodiumpyruvate,butisoftenusedwithhigherglucoselevels,withorwithoutsodiumpyruvate.DMEMwithGlutaMAX™supplementminimizestoxicammoniabuild-upandimprovescellviABIlityandgrowthinaneasy-to-useformat.DMEMcontainsnoproteins,lipids,orgrowthfactors.Therefore,DMEMrequiressupplementation,commonlywith10%FetalBovineSerum(FBS).DMEMusesasodiumbicarbonatebuffersystem(3.7g/L),andthereforerequiresa5–10%CO₂environmenttomaintainphysiologicalpH.
