TheYTS169.4monoclonalantibodyreactswithmouseCD8α.TheCD8antigenisatransmembraneglycoproteinthatactsasaco-receptorfortheTcellreceptor(TCR).LiketheTCR,CD8bindstoclassIMHCmoleculesdisplayedbyantigenpresentingcells(APC).CD8isprimarilyexpressedonthesurfaceofcytotoxicTcells,butcanalsobefoundonthymocytes,naturalkillercells,andsomedendriticcellsubsets.CD8mostcommonlyexistsasaheterodimercomposedofoneCD8αandoneCD8βchainhowever,itcanalsoexistasahomodimercomposedoftwoCD8αchains.BoththeCD8αandCD8βchainssharesignificanthomologytoimmunoglobulinvariablelightchains.ThemolecularweightofeachCD8chainisapproximately34kDa.TheYTS169.4antibodyexhibitsdepletingactivitywhenusedinvivo.
