Macrophage Inflammatory Protein-1 alpha (MIP-1α), also known asCCL3, is produced by macrophages and is thought to induceinflammatory responses, including superoxide production byneutrophils. MIP-1α can exist as a naturally occurringheterodimer with MIP-1β and has been shown to have antiviralactivity against HSV-1. Recombinant rat MIP-1α is anon-glycosylated protein, containing 69 amino acids and having amolecular mass of 7.8 kDa.
