Description:

TheIL-1familyofcytokinesisasetofstructurallyrelatedmoleculesthatareprimarymediatorsofinflammation.Thisfamilynowconsistsof11cytokinesand9cell-surfacereceptors,thebestcharacterizedofwhichareIL-1α,IL-1β,IL-1receptorantagonist(IL-1ra),andIL-18.SevennovelmemberswererecentlyidentifiedfromDNAdatabasesalmostsimultaneouslybyseveraldifferentgroups,andtoreduceconfusion,asystematicnomenclaturewasproposed.IL-1F6,IL-1F8,andIL-1F9haveallreportedproinflammatoryproperties.IL-1F5shares52%aminoacidsimilaritywithIL-1raandassuchantagonizesIL-1F6andIL-1F9attheIL-1R3(RAcP)–IL-1R6(Rrp2)receptorcomplex.IL-1F7actsasanattenuatorofIL-18activityandmayactasaninhibitorofinnateimmunesignaling.
