MonoclonalantibodyPC107isspecificforactivatedProteinC(APC).ProteinC(PC)isanimportantregulatorofthebloodcoagulationsystem.TheanticoagulantPCisconvertedtoactivatedproteinC(APC)bythethrombomodulin(TM)-thrombincomplexonthephospholipidsurfaceofendothelialcells,monocytes,andplatelets.ThisprocessisenhancedinthepresenceoftheendothelialproteinCreceptor(EPCR).Inadditiontoitsregulatoryfunctioninthebloodcoagulationsystem,studiesindicateimportantrolesforAPCininflammatoryprocesses.TheadmiNISTrationofAPCpreventslethaleffectsofEscherichiacoli-associatedsepsisinexperimentalanimalmodelsandappearseffectiveforthetreatmentofpatientswithmeningococcemiaoracquiredPCdeficiency.TreatmentwithAPCimprovestheclinicaloutcomeofpatientswithsepsis.Theanti-inflammatoryactivityofAPCdependsonitsABIlitytosuppressthesecretionofcytokinesastumornecrosisfactor-alphabyinflammatorycells,theactivationandextravasationofleukocytesandtheexpressionandfunctionofadhesionmolecules.APCmayalsosuppresstheexpressionofgrowthfactorsandmembersofnuclearfactor-kB(NF-kB)familyoftranscriptionfactors.ThemonoclonalantibodyPC107isspecificforactivatedhumanproteinC(APC)anditlacksreactivityforProteinC.ThemonoclonalantibodyrecognizesthelightchainoftheAPCmolecule.
