
HumanCD39isfoundonmostmatureBcells,activatedNKcellsandactivatedTcells.CD39isalsoweaklyexpressedongranulocytes.CD39hashomologytotheNmycfamilyofproteinsandwasrecentlycloned.CD39canhydrolyzebothnucleosidetriphosphatesanddiphosphates.CD39isthedominantectonucleotidaseofvascularandplacentaltrophoblastictissuesandappearstomodulatethefunctionalexpressionoftype2purinergic(P2)Gproteincoupledreceptors(GPCRs).CD39transgenicmiceexhibitimpairedplateletaggregation,prolongedbleedingtimes,andresistancetosystemicthromboembolism.ThereisacorrelationbetweenATPhydrolysisandtriglyceridesinpatientswithchronicheartdisease,suggestingarelationshipbetweenATPdiphosphohydrolaseandthrombogenesis
