BACKGROUND

Annexin1belongstoafamilyofCa(2+)-dependentphospholipidbindingproteinswhichhavemolecularweightsofapproximately35-40kDaandarelocalizedonthecytosolicfaceofthe

plasmamembrane.Annexin1,anendogenousanti-inflammatoryprotein,hasrolesinmanydiversecellularfunctions,suchasmembraneaggregation,inflammation,phagocytosis,proliferation,andapoptosis.Annexin1alsopossessesphosphorylationsitesforimportant

proliferativesignalingmoleculese.g.,EGFreceptortyrosinekinaseandPKC.ThissuggeststhatAnnexin1mayhavearoleincertainsignalingpathwaysimportantincancer.However,theexactmechanismsthroughwhichAnnexin1exertssomeorallofitseffectsarestillnotclearlyunderstood,andmayrevealimportantfunctionsofAnnexin1intumOrigenesisandcancerdevelopment.
