INTRODUCTION
HaptogloginparticipatesinintestinalpermeABIlity,permittingintercellulartightjunctiondisassembly,andcontrollingtheequilibriumamongtoleranceandimmunitytonon-selfantigens.Haptoglobinhasantibacterialactivityandtakespartinmodulatingmanyaspectsoftheacutephaseresponse.Haptoglobinisprocessedtoyieldbothalphaandbetachains,whichlateruniteasatetramertoproducehaptoglobin.Haptoglobinbindsfreehemoglobin(Hb)secretedfromerythrocytesInbloodplasmawithhighaffinityandthusinhibitsitsoxidativeactivity.Further,thehaptoglobin-hemoglobincomplexisbeingremovedbythereticuloendothelialsystem.
