DescriptionTheDenguevirusIgGELISAtestsystemisanenzymelinkedimmunosorbentassay(ELISA)forthedetectionofIgGclassantibodiestoDenguevirusinhumanserumorplasma.Themosquito-bornedengueviruses(serotype1-4)causedenguefever,asevereflu-likeillness.ThediseaseisprevalentinThirdWorldtropicalregionsandspreadingtosub-tropicaldevelopedcountries-includingtheUnitedStates.WHOestimatesthat50-80millioncasesofdenguefeveroccurworldwideeachyear,includingapotentiallydeadlyformofthediseasecalleddenguehemorrhagicfever(DHF)anddengueshocksyndrome(DSS).Primaryinfectionwithdenguevirusresultsinaself-limitingdiseasecharacterizedbymildtohighfeverlasting3to7days,severeheadachewithpainbehindtheeyes,muscleandjointpain,rashandvomiting.SecondaryinfectionisthemorecommonformofthediseaseinmanypartsofSoutheastAsiaandSouthAmerica.ThisformofthediseaseismoreseriousandcanresultinDHFandDSS.Themajorclinicalsymptomscanincludehighfever,hemorrhagicevents,andcirculatoryfailure,andthefatalityratecanbeashighas40%.EarlydiagnosisofDSSisparticularlyimportant,aspatientsmaydiewithin12to24hifappropriatetreatmentisnotadministered.
