Description

PravastatinisaninhibitorofHMG-CoAreductasethatexhibitsanti-hyperlipidemic,anticancer,antithrombotic,antioxidative,immunosuppressive,anti-allergic,andanti-asthmaactivities.Clinically,pravastatinincreasesexpressionofLDLreceptors,inducingcellularLDLuptaketodecreaselevelsofLDLandtriglyceridesandincreaselevelsofHDL.Inanimalmodelsofcancer,pravastatinincreasestheefficacyofbevacizumabwhengivenincombination,furtherdecreasingtumorgrowthandinhibitingangiogenesisandmetastasis.PravastatininhibitsthrombosisinanimalmodelsofatheroscleroticplaqueruptureanddecreasesLucigenin-inducedO2rADIcalformationinotherinvivomodels.Additionally,pravastatindownregulatesexpressionofIL-17anddecreasesproductionofTh4cytokinesandIgE,preventingairwayinflammationinanimalmodelsofOVA-inducedallergies.
