SERCA2belongstotheP-typefamilyofATPases(Xu etal.,1993;Toyofuku etal.,1994;Hawkins etal.,1994;Osada etal.,1998;Netticadan etal.,1999;Netticadan etal.,2000).ControversystillsurroundsthephosphorylationstatusofSer-38anditsphysiologicalimplication.SomegroupshavereportedthatSer-38ofSERCA2isphosphorylatedbyCaMKII,whichapparentlyleadstoasubstantialincreaseinATPaseactivity(Xu etal.,1993;Hawkins etal.,1994).However,thecontrolofCa2+ pumpfunctionbydirectphosphorylationhasnotbeenobservedbyallinvestigators(Odermatt etal.,1996;Reddy etal.,1996;Rodriguez etal.,2004).IndependentattemptstoconfirmSERCA2phosphorylationatSer-38havefailedtoconfirmthestimulationofCa2+ pumpfunctionupontreatmentwithCaMKII,whichsuggeststhatSer-38phosphorylationofSERCA2isnotasignificantregulatoryfeatureofcardiacCa2+ homeostasis.Thisantibody,describedbyRodriguez etal.(2004),mayhelptoresolvethecontroversy,asitrecognisestheSer-38phospho-epitope
