TheBM8.1antibodyisspecificformouseF4/80antigen,a125kDatransmembraneproteinwidelyexpressedbymembersofthemononuclearphagocytesystemandconsideredtobeakeyMarkerformaturemacrophagecells.F4/80isdifferentiallyexpressedduringmyeloidcelldevelopment,andmayberegulatedbycertaincytokineswithinthetissuemicroenvironment.OthercelltypesshowntoexpressthisantigenincludeLangerhanscells,Kupffercellsanddendriticcellsubsets.BM8.1iswidelyusedtogetherwithantibodiestoCD115(c-fms),CD11bandCD11ctoidentifymyeloid/macrophagecellsbyflowcytometry.
