TheMEL-14antibodyisspecificformouseCD62L,alsoknownasL-Selectin,acelladhesionmoleculewhichfacilitateslymphocyte“rolling”onactivatedvascularendotheliumandhomingtohighendothelialvenules(HEV)asimmunecellstransmigratefrombloodintoperipheraltissues.L-SelectinisamemberofafamilyofSelectinmoleculeswhichacttogetherwiththeintegrinfamilyofadhesionmoleculestomediateleukocyte-endothelialinteractions.L-Selectinischaracteristicallyexpressedbyneutrophils,andisalsofoundonBcells,monocytes,granulocytes,andatvaryinglevelsonnaive,effectorandmemoryTcells.Itisrapidlysheduponcellactivation,releasingintothecirculationasolubleformwhoseBIOLOGicalroleisofparticularinterestincancerbiologyresearch.
