TheHit3aantibodyisspecificforhumanCD3e,alsoknownasCD3epsilon,a20kDasubunitoftheTcellreceptorcomplex,alongwithCD3gammaandCD3delta.TheseintegralmembraneproteinchainsassemblewithadditionalchainsoftheTcellreceptor(TCR),aswellasCD3zetachain,toformtheTcellreceptor–CD3complex.Togetherwithco-receptorsCD4orCD8,thecomplexservestorecognizeantigensboundtoMHCmoleculesonantigen-presentingcells.TheseinteractionspromoteTcellreceptorsignaling(Tcellactivation),inducingcellproliferation,differentiation,productionofcytokinesoractivation-inducedcelldeath.CD3isdifferentiallyexpressedduringthymocyte-to-TcelldevelopmentandonallmatureTcells.
