Description

Dantrolene is a hydantoin derivative that inhibits the ryanodine receptor (RyR), preventing mitochondrial Ca2+ uptake. Dantrolene also inhibits L-type Ca(V)1.1 Ca2+ channels and is clinically used to treat malignant hyperthermia. Dantrolene also exhibits cardioprotective activity, decreases apoptosis and TNF-α levels and increases IL-10 levels in various animal models of ischemia/reperfusion.
