Anti-ElastaseantibodydetectstheElastaseprotein.Elastasemetabolizeselastin,anelasticfiber,whichtogetherwithcollagen,determinesthemechanicalpropertiesofconnectivetissue.TheneutrophilformbreaksdowntheOutermembraneproteinA(OmpA)ofE.coliandotherGram-negativebacteria.ElastasealsohastheimportantimmunologicalroleofbreakingdownShigellavirulencefactors.Thisisaccomplishedthroughthecleavageofpeptidebondsinthetargetproteins.Thespecificpeptidebondscleavedarethoseonthecarboxysideofsmall,hydrophobicaminoacidssuchasglycine,alanine,andvaline.Thisantibodyissuitableforresearchersinvestigatingbiochemistryandstemcells.
