Alpha-1-AcidGlycoproteinAntibodydetectsalpha-1-acidglycoprotein(AGPorAAG.)Alpha-1-acidglycoproteinisanacutephase(acutephaseprotein)plasmaalpha-globulinglycoproteinandismodulatedbytwopolymorphicgenes.Itissynthesizedprimarilyinhepatocytesandhasanormalplasmaconcentrationbetween0.6-1.2mg/mL(1-3%plasmaprotein).[1]Plasmalevelsareaffectedbypregnancy,certaindrugs,andcertaindiseases,particularlyHIV.TheonlyestablishedfunctionofORMistoactasacarrierofbasicandneutrallychargedlipophiliccompounds.Inmedicine,itisknownastheprimarycarrierofbasicdrugs(whereasalbumincarriesacidicdrugs),steroids,andproteaseinhibitors.Agingcausesasmalldecreaseinplasmaalbuminlevels;ifanything,thereisasmallincreaseina1acidglycoprotein.Theeffectofthesechangesondrugproteinbindinganddrugdelivery,however,appeartobeminimal.Anti-Alpha-1-AcidGlycoproteinAntibodyisidealforinvestigatorsinvolvedininfectiousdiseaseandcellcycleproteinresearch.
