ActinexistsasaubiquitousproteininvolvedwithfilamentformationthatmakeuplargeportionsoftheCytoskeleton.Actinfilamentsinteractwithmyosintoassistinmusclecontractionaswellasaidingincellmotilityandcytokinesis.Invertebratestherearethreegroupsofactinisoforms:alpha,betaandgamma.Thealphaactinsarefoundinmuscletissuesandareamajorconstituentofthecontractileapparatus.Thebetaandgammaactinsco-existsinmostcelltypesascomponentsofthecytoskeletonandasmediatorsofinternalcellmotility.
